Beitbridge—Ward 14 Rural District Council has a new councillor following the successful nomination of a single candidate during the nomination process held herentoday.

Tamson Lamula Ndou was the sole candidate who successfully submitted nomination papers by close of deadline and were accepted by the Nomination Court. As no other candidates were nominated, Ndou was automatically declared the winner in accordance with the Electoral Act.

Speaking during the declaration, the Nomination Officer, Adrian Thintswalo Muyambo, cited Section 125, Subsection (4)(a) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13], which provides that where only one candidate is duly nominated, that candidate shall be declared elected without the need for a poll.

“Since only one candidate, Tamson Lamula Ndou of Zanu PF Party, has been nominated, I, Adrian Thintswalo Muyambo, the Nomination Officer, hereby declare that Cde Ndou is duly elected Councillor for Ward 14 with effect from today, the 21st of January 2026,” he said.

Following the declaration, it was noted that further administrative processes, including inspection procedures and formal communication, will be undertaken.

The Rural District Council (RDC) will be officially informed of the outcome by the responsible committee tomorrow, after which guidance will be given on the councillor’s assumption of duties in line with RDC procedures.

In his acceptance remarks, Ndou expressed humility and confidence in the community, emphasising unity, inclusivity, and collective development.

“I don’t have much to say, but I am confident in the people who supported me. We will work together in identifying our basic needs such as schools, roads, and other key services.

Together with our headmen and our chief, we will conquer all challenges,” he said.
He further pledged to lead with openness and respect.

“Most of all, I will not undermine anyone. I will be open to advice from everyone, because development comes when we work as one,” he added.

The declaration marks a new chapter for Ward 14, with residents now looking forward to collaborative leadership and improved service delivery under the newly elected councillor.
