IN an act of social responsibility, Community Youth Development Trust (CYDT) last week
took time to clean the environs of Gwanda Old People's Home.
The institution, which has been seeking assistance for a long time, has seen several workers
leaving, resulting in the remaining few unable to keep the place intact.
CYDT Ward 8 focal person, Sakhe Ncube, organised youths to ensure the institution which
houses the aged was left squeaky clean.
"We realized that our aged people need extra help at their home. We have managed to clean-
up their surroundings as we brought youths together for the noble cause.
“We want to see the elderly living in a hygienic environment and we will keep helping them,"
said Ncube.
A youth, who participated in the clean-up, Silothando Ndlovu, said that before the cleaning
the institution was a gloomy sight.
"With age, our elderly cannot do everything for themselves. We are now in the rainy season.
Weeds were everywhere and these harbour snakes and mosquitoes.
“We managed to clean up the premises and got some refreshments for them," she said.
An inmate at Gwanda Old People’s Home, Sinikiwe Manda, thanked the organisation for
spearheading the outstanding work.
“We are delighted by these youths, who did a magnificent job on our premises. “Nowadays
youths tend to abuse their parents with several acts by venturing into drugs, stealing and
mischievous activity, which shorten their lifespan, but these have been exemplary and shown
that they are capable future leaders," said Manda.
