IN an incident that has left villagers shocked a 31-year-old woman from Dewure East in Gutu, allegedly forced her three children to drink poison and later drank the same substance following a dispute with her husband.
Persistance Mhazhe died after consuming the poison while her three children where rushed to Silveira Hospital, where the other two children, Adonia (9) and Abiata Taramusha (2) later died.
Masvingo police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe, confirmed the case and said one of the children, a six-year-old, was still admitted at the hospital.
He said Mhazhe had a domestic dispute with her husband, Joas Taramusha (30).
“On May 7, around 3am Mhazhe prepared a powdered insecticide poison which she consumed and gave some to her children. Mhazhe was found dead in her bedroom and the children were rushed to Silveria Hospital,” he said.
“Adonia was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital and Abiata died on Wednesday morning. The bodies were taken to the hospital mortuary for post mortem.”
Inspector Dhewa urged the people to respect the sanctity of life and involve third parties in resolving their disputes.
