Harare (New Ziana) –With the rainy season upon the country, the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) is urging motorists to drive with caution to avoid accidents as the roads will be slippery.
“As the rainy season is approaching, the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe would like to urge the motoring public to be especially cautious on the road. We urge motorists to avoid speeding and maintain a proper following distance at all cost in an effort to avoid road crashes,” it said.
“We have noted with concern a number of drivers who park their vehicles under trees, this is not a safe behaviour as this season is characterised by heavy rains and winds and these can cause trees to fall, and if parked under a tree that can cause a terrible accident.
There is growing concern at the high carnage on the country’s roads with the majority of accidents being caused by human error including drunken driving, speeding and overloading while the state of some vehicles has also contributed.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is on record urging the police to descend heavily on motorists who flout road traffic regulations and cause accidents that result in needless loss of lives.
