ZIFA’S technical committee will meet this week to review the Warriors recent performances, Nqobile Magwizi, the Zifa president, has revealed.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with New Ziana, Magwizi – who skipped the fixture in Johannesburg where Zimbabwe lost 0-1 to Rwanda – said he had been disappointed by the Warriors defeat to Benin last Friday.

“I want the Warriors to win every game and I was certainly disappointed by the turn of events in Abidjan,” said the Zifa president.

Defeat to Rwanda was the team’s fourth with Nees’ at the helm, the German having drawn six other matches and won only twice.

Magwizi told New Ziana on the sidelines of the Cosafa Under-17 Championship in Harare yesterday afternoon that it was the role of the technical committee to make relevant recommendations to the mother body.

“We have a competent technical committee led by Tafadzwa Benza which meets regularly including holding online sessions.

“They will meet this week to review the team’s performance in the two games played during this Fifa international break.”

Magwizi’s board took office in January 2025 when Nees was already into his sixth month coaching the men’s senior national team.

“We inherited the coach,” Magwizi acknowledged. “But now I am leader of the whole organisation (Zifa) and I embrace everything in it including its past.”

He added:

“But I must continue reviewing everything in order to make the correct decisions.”

This is the toughest stance yet taken by the national football governing body on Nees as patience in the coach begins to wear thin.

Gilbert Mugisha’s first half goal was all Rwanda’s Wasps needed to wave off the Warriors of Zimbabwe in a World Cup African Zone Group C qualifier at Orlando Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

Nees’ side only showed keenness to get a result in the last 30 minutes of the game.

Zimbabwe remain on four points and still without a win with two qualifying matches outstanding.

Rwanda are now on 11 points alongside Benin who beat Zimbabwe 1-0 in Abidjan last Friday.
