Zvishavane (New Ziana) – A violent storm has destroyed several houses and household property in Mugwgwa village in Zvishavane, leaving owners stranded.

An initial assessment of the disaster by the Zvishavane District Development Co-ordinator’s office indicates the villagers also lost food, blankets, clothing and other household possessions in addition to destroyed homes.

The storm hit the area recently and left the trail of destruction from which villagers said it would be hard for them to recover.

About nine households were affected, but luckily no deaths or injuries were reported.

Government structures, including the offices of the Provincial Minister, and District Development Co-ordinator have sprung into action to mobilise assistance for the storm victims.

Already, the local Member of Parliament, Cuthbert Mbame and Murowa Diamonds, which operates from the area, have procured maize for the affected families.

No alternative accommodation has been found yet for the families, but plans are afoot to temporarily house them in local schools until a permanent solution to their plight is found.
