GWERU – Castle Lager Premier Soccer League debutants Sheasham FC coach John Nyikadzino was
impressed by his team’s performance despite going down to Harare giants Dynamos 1-0 in a pre-
season friendly at Ascot Stadium last Saturday.
Nyikadzino said there was no need to press the panic button yet, adding that they were in the
Premier League to challenge for the title.
“I am very happy with the team’s performance considering we are building a new team altogether.
We, however, need to work on attacking because we seem solid in defence and midfield,” he said.
With Nyikadzino expressing satisfaction, his opposite number Dynamos coach Herbert Maruwa said
his team is ready for battle in this season’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
Maruwa recorded victory in his maiden game as Dynamos coach after towering defender Frank
Makarati scored the only goal of the match.
“It’s a process. I’m impressed with building this team although there are areas I feel need to be
improved upon,” he said.
Sheasham was very active in the off-season with 10 new acquisitions including the pair of former
Caps United players Diego Makurumidze and Tichaona Macheka.
Fans in Gweru applauded the seriousness exhibited by the team in bringing new blood in the
dressing room.
Simon Makurumidze of Mtapa said he was confident that Sheasham would last the distance in the
Premiership following failure by other teams from Gweru to survive one season in the league.
“They are serious and we are really excited about their preparedness,” he said.
Sheasham also added former FC Platinum and Highlanders goalkeeper Future Sibanda and
Whawha’s roving anchorman Munyaradzi Chirwa.
They also got the services of Simbarashe Chimanikire, Parkington Mazhawu and Leonard Jani from
Golden Eagles, ZPC Kariba and Talen Vision respectively.
Tafadzwa Marira, Polyester Shoko and Jubani Tuwe complete the list of senior players, with Michael
Joseph topping the juniors list.
