Set up proper cell-Bimha

New Ziana > Ilanga > Set up proper cell-Bimha

MARONDERA- The ZANU PF national political commissar Mike Bimha recently implored
Mashonaland East province to build authentic cells as the party moves to strengthen itself ahead of
the general elections this year.
Bimha was addressing a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting at the party’s provincial
offices in Marondera.
He said realistic party cells will help it to know its actual membership, which is critical when going to
the polls.
“Every member of our party should be in our cell registration books. Cell building helps us to know
the number of our members. Let me say we will soon be holding our primary elections in our party,
and those who are going to vote during these primary elections are those people in our cells. So
these cell registers will be used during that period.
“We are aware that in some areas, their cells were proper but there are other areas where they had
fake cells. Some registers had names of non-existing members, while in others, you would find
names of people who are not our party members. In that vein, we are then going to carry out a cell
verification exercise so that we can determine whether we have real cells or not.
“We would also want to make sure, while conducting this exercise, that those who are in our cell
registers are registered to vote. If not, the teams on the ground will ensure that they are registered
to vote. We are doing so before the President announces election date, because we would not be
able to do that once the election date is announced. So we are urging all the deployed teams to
make sure that all our members at cell level are registered to vote,” Bimha said.
He also warned aspiring candidates against campaigning before official communication is done.
“We will soon dispatch supervisory teams who will be there to verify new cells and we expect that
this exercise will be done expeditiously. Our wish is to have authentic and real cells so that we know
our membership as a party and that those in cells are registered to vote.
He said: “I want to take this opportunity to advise those who have started campaigning for
themselves that they are not allowed to do so as yet. They will be told when the time to do so is ripe.
We have seen that a lot of people use a lot of money and resources for campaigns but then when
the guidelines come, some of them would then not qualify yet they would have wasted resources. In
that regard, we are calling for our members to have high levels of discipline and wait for the right
time.”
The meeting was attended by members of the main wing, women’s league, youth league, war
veterans league and Central Committee members.
