PRISON officers have been warned against finding comfort in company houses while not building their own.
Marian Chihobvu, the wife of the Commissioner General for the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services, Moses Chihobvu, made the remarks as she met female prison officers from all the four prisons and their satellites in Mashonaland Central on Friday.
The female officers together with the wives of their male counterparts met the Commissioner-General’s wife in Bindura.
Chihobvu said there was no logic in depending on a company house.
Aware that their salaries might not be enough to carry them through out, she encouraged them to join Phakamani/Simukai Women’s Club so that they could start internal savings clubs as well as projects for income-generation, which will then help them in the construction of their own houses.
“Think of how embarrassing it will be for you to be seen looking for a house to rent at the end of your employment tenure?
“Make sure you built your own houses whilst you are still at work.
Your pension must not be used to pay rentals, rather it should be used to sponsor your income- generating projects during your retirement,” she said.
Chihobvu is the chairperson of Phakamani/Simukai Women’s Club for the female prison officers and wives of their male counterparts.
