President commissions buses for rural civil servants

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa last Thursday commissioned 18 Public Service
Commission buses in Gwanda, Matabeleland South, under the Civil Service Rural Transport
Scheme, which seeks to cater for the transport challenges faced by civil servants deployed to
rural areas.
President Mnangagwa commissioned the buses at Phelandaba Stadium.
It was the fourth batch of buses that have been availed to civil servants by the Second Republic,
bringing to nearly 90 buses since 2019 as 25 buses were received in 2020, 33 in 2021 13 buses
were received for urban areas.
The distribution of buses is the fulfilment of the Governments mantra of "leaving no one and no
place behind, which stretches to civil servants.
Under the distribution of the new buses eight provinces have so far benefited, and the
Government has promised to purchase more so that all civil servants are catered.
These buses are to cater for transport challenges faced by civil servants in rural areas after they
have raised a complaint of transport difficulties, said President Mnangagwa.
Emphasis was made that the buses must be taken care of.
In his remarks, Civil Service Commission chairperson, Dr Vincent Hungwe, said the distribution
of buses was part of the fulfilment of the Governments policy that is leaving no one and no place
behind as it includes all sectors in the country.
Your Excellency, your administration has honoured its commitment to improve the working
conditions of its workers. In your visionary wisdom and leadership, you have directed us to
improve civil servants’ access to affordable transport, said Dr. Hungwe.
Apex president, Cecelia Alexander, said the challenges that had been faced by civil servants in
rural areas had been taken care of as they were assured of safe transport.
