HARARE – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) seized large quantities of unregistered medicines at Yadah Hotel, owned by the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) founder, Prophet Walter Magaya.
The raid was part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal pharmaceuticals.
Among the seized items were metronidazole, clotrimazole, acyclovir topical cream, fluconazole tablets, cotrimoxazole pills, miconazole nitrate vaginal cream, CoQ10 vascular care, sodium bicarbonate injections, Stillen Aupatillin injections, and restorative lip balm—all of which are unregistered and not approved for distribution.
Donald Makuvaza, a director at Yadah Hotel where the drugs were found, appeared before Harare Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki. He pleaded guilty to two counts of violating the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act for possessing unregistered medicines and unregistered complementary medicines.
The case has been adjourned until March 10 to record a formal plea.
The court heard that on November 15 last year, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Harare received a tip-off about unregistered and unapproved complementary medicines allegedly stored in one of the hotel’s rooms in Waterfalls, Harare.
Upon their arrival, the detectives identified themselves and conducted a thorough search.
Besides recovering the unregistered medicines, detectives also reportedly found Compounded Prescription Weekly forms, which indicated the dispensing and administration of the medicines to one Happiness Mavindire.
