GWANDA – THE Government continues to fulfil its mantra of youth empowerment through agriculture development as the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Matabeleland South, Dr Evelyn Ndlovu, recently gave piglets to Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic (JMN).
The donation is aimed at promoting sustainable farming practices and improving livelihoods in the district in particular and province in general.
In a bid to boost the sector, the Minister donated four gilts (female piglets) and one boar (male).
Handing over the donation, the Minister said: “The donation seeks to empower the students and the institution on animal rearing and production for value addition.”
Last year, three piglets were donated to Sabiwa Primary School in Gwanda and the school now has now they have more than 30 pigs.
Donations of this nature are expected to extend to rural schools as part of the Government’s initiative of creating rural business economic hubs.
The Minister emphasised that agriculture was key to the success of Matabeleland South Province.
A final year Agriculture student at JMN Polytechnic was gifted with two piglets as part of the Government policy of not leaving anyone behind. The piglets comprise one male and female.
