NSSA goat project for pensioners

New Ziana > Ilanga > NSSA goat project for pensioners

PENSIONERS in Magedleni area have been left in a cheerful state after the National Social
Security Authority (NSSA) pledged a goat project in their area to enhance their livelihoods.
The project aims to complement the payments of pensioners as the money they earn is not
enough.
Land has already been surveyed and found suitable for the project.
To ensure the success of the goat project, NSSA has partnered with Bindura University of
Science Education (BUSE) as it will be their technical partner and also facilitate training of
pensioners so that they are able to fully run the project with adequate knowledge.
Government departments such as Agritex and the Veterinary Services have also been roped in.
NASSA Deputy Director for Marketing and Communications, Tendai Mutseyekwa, confirmed
the development and said the project would also serve the purposes of preparing those who
might require skills on livestock rearing
“The goat project is initially targeting about 25 pensioners in the village occupying 20 hectares
of communal land to the south of Orphan Dam.
“The project will include cross-breeding of Boer and Matabele goats to produce quality breeds
that will also attract international markets.  Non-pensioners are also welcome to participate as
they have an opportunity of learning,” said Mutseyekwa.
He added that he hopes the project will improve living standards of pensioners through earning
extra income.
A pensioner set to be involved in the project, Meluleki Dube, expressed gratitude to NSSA for
the initiative.
"I am very grateful for what NSSA has done for pensioners as the project will boost our financial
position, which will enable us to fully take care of our families," he said.
