NKOMWA Foundation Trust (NFT), an organisation that caters for needs of the
disabled, recently donated food and school essentials to a 14-year-old Form Three girl
from Zhokwe in Gwanda Rural Ward 13.
The girl, who cannot be named because of her age, was identified by NFT in 2020 and
comes from a child-headed family. She could not continue with her secondary school
education after completing Grade Seven in 2019.
However, with the intervention of NFT, the girl has been adopted by the organisation,
thus ensuring that she can continue with her education, while also having her needs
catered for.
NFT currently rents lodgings for her near her school at Ntepe High, since her
homestead is 8km away from the school.
The latest donation for the girl came as the world celebrated International Day of
Education and NFT saw it appropriate to share what they had with her in an effort also
meant to uplift the girl child with disability.
The girl thanked NFT for their support and promised to work harder. She asked for a
smart phone for her to be able to undertake online lessons.
I am really grateful to NFT for their continuous support. I will keep on working hard all
the times. I appeal for a smart phone so l can be able to partake in online lessons,” she
said.
Ward 13 Councillor Miclas Ndlovu said that NFT was a life-saver and a caring provider
as evidenced by the work they are doing in his ward. He said that few organisations
thought of the less privileged, especially in rural areas.
NFT ngumahlangula (rescuer) as it rescued the young lady by taking care of her
needs. Other organisations tend to give more focus on people without disabilities in the

communities neglecting PWDs. However, NFT showed love and commitment towards
people with disabilities, said the councillor.
NFT Director, Pick Nkomwa, said that educating a girl child with disability opens doors
of opportunities for her in life.
“I am so humbled that as an organisation we were able to assist one girl, who is one of
our project participants we are trying to uplift. Of all the girls we are supporting, she is
among the top five of those doing very well, said Nkomwa.
He paid tribute to various partners and the local leadership for supporting their
endeavours within the communities they operate.
