TWENTY-FIVE year-old Charles Munyaradzi Zhoya, of Manhenga, Bindura landed himself
in trouble with the law for contravening the Firearms Act.
He appeared recently before Bindura Magistrates’ Court, facing charges of contravening
section 4(1) of the Firearms Act chapter 10.09, after he was found in possession of 15×38
special live rounds and 41×22 live rounds of ammunition last week.
The accused person, Charles Munyaradzi Zhoya of House number 33 Manhenga, Bindura
pleaded guilty when he appeared before Bindura Magistrate Samantha Dhlamini.
Prosecutor Shiela Maribha told the court that in the afternoon of 11 January, detectives
arrested Tatenda Gatsi for possession of ammunition without a valid firearm’s licence.
Upon being interrogated he led detectives to Zhoya as the one who had given him one .38
special live round.
On 25 January Zhoya was arrested. He then led the detectives to his place of residence,
leading to the recovery of 15×38 special live rounds and 41×22 live rounds of ammunition,
hidden in his room.
Detectives asked Zhoya to produce a licence authorising him to be in possession of the
ammunition but failed. The recovered live rounds of ammunition were sent to ballistics for
forensic examination.
