KWEKWE — Former Leo members Sandra Masukume and Sheunesu Mangwende Junior, were
inducted as Lions in recognition of for their quality service to others.
The two were inducted together with Lion Bonani Moyo during the Presidential and Board
installation ceremony of the Lions Club of Kwekwe Greater recently.
Speaking on the side lines of the ceremony, Lions Mangwende and Masukume spoke highly of the
worthiness of the transition and inclusion opportunities given to Leos to transform into Lions and
promote principles of good governance for the youths.
I have been an Alpha member at Batanai High School Leo Club since 2009. The transition and
inclusion by the Lions Club of integrating former Leos into their operations, gives us hope as Leos in
our quest to continue serving and making a difference in the organisation and the community.
“It shows that the club is aware of inclusiveness, and diversity, and open to incorporating new ideas,
such that it remains relevant, relevant as it continues to address challenges and mishaps that we are
facing in the community,” he said.
Lion Mangwende, said they are coming in with new ideas on how to tackle the problem of substance
and drug abuse by youths in the community.
“It is easier for us to deal with such issues on peer to peer basis than having the senior Lions Club
members coming in to address such issues. This gives us a platform to address other issues affecting
the youths and minimise their implications," he added.
Lion Masukume has a passion to serve youths and women, and said with the Lions principles and
good fellowship in her she will serve all equally.
I started serving as a Leo in 2016 at Batanai High School. I was the Club's President. Later I served
under the Redcliff Omega Leo Club and I was also President of the Club in 2018. At the same time, I
was also serving as the first Vice President of Great Zimbabwe University Omega Leo Club,” she said.
Lion Masukume articulated how she felt during her transition period from Leo to Lion.
It gave me the drive to co-ordinate and foster a spirit of mutual understanding in my community
and it brings out that dynamic brilliance in me.
“The wait was tiresome but finally the time is here, I'm now serving as a Lion at Lions Club of
Kwekwe Greater. I urge the youths to join the Leo Clubs since it is a serving organisation and gives
back to the community.
“It also creates opportunities to network and connect. Our organisation upholds inclusiveness to
people with special needs. I have a passion to serve less privileged and disadvantaged women. I love
to see women and youths thrive and smile,” she said.
Lion Masukume advised tertiary students doing social work and development studies, to join the
Lions Club where they will increase their knowledge, and connections.
