NHWALI’s Sithakeni community is gathering resources and an undisclosed amount of money for the construction of a new primary school, Ilanga has learnt.
When Ilanga news crew visited the remote Nhwali Village, community members from Sithakeni were busy clearing the bush at a site of the proposed school.
Currently, infants as young as four years walk 14km under the scorching sun to Nhwali Primary School.
Faced with this situation, Sithakeni community is planning to construct an ECD block for the school.
The project dovetails with the Government’s National Development Strategy (NDS1) and Vision 2030.
Pilot Ndlovu, one of the villagers, expressed his happiness as he applauded the Government for allowing the community to construct the school.
“The rural district council has pegged this area for us to build a school for our infants.
These kids walk over 10km to Nhwali Primary School, which is not healthy.
“We are working as a community whether you have a school-going child or not, everybody participates.
“Our target is to finish bush clearing before the rainy season and start building in January resources permitting.
“Brick molding will be done by locals while other material like roofing and furniture is a challenge.
“Each household is contributing at least 50 rand towards purchasing of cement and other required materials,” explained Ndlovu.
Village head, Simon Muleya, from the Mbenga line at Sithakeni Village, said his village had many children hence there was need to construct a primary school.
Gwanda Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer, Ranganani Sibanda, confirmed the development.
“We identified the school site, pegging is yet to be done,” said the CEO.
