CHIEF Nyamaropa has bemoaned an upsurge in cases of infidelity in the province saying it has reached alarming stages as his traditional court regularly attends to five such cases every time it sits.
Chief Nyamaropa, Munyaradzi Tirivaringe, said infidelity was contributing to a number of marriages breaking up, and that this was disheartening because it meant people were not showing regard to the institution of marriage.
“I am deeply concerned with the rate at which marriages are failing in Mashonaland Central. There is a high level of infidelity that is affecting my area and province and in some instances. Other chiefs and I attend to four cases of infidelity in a week. Infidelity is destroying marriages and it is disheartening.
“Sometimes you get a married man cheating with a married woman and those perpetrators disrespect our culture because our tradition doesn’t expect us to do such shameful acts. Infidelity is the driving factor of many divorce cases,” said Chief Nyamaropa.
Chief Nyamaropa has observed that infidelity is one of the major factors leading to a surge in divorce cases in the society.
He said divorces have negative impacts not only at the family level but also on the society, noting that divorce has negative impact on children at home as well as the public.
Chief Nyamaropa appealed to elders, traditional leaders and church leaders to ensure that they engage married couples in programmes regarding how to manage homes so that they have healthy families and there is a reduction in cases of infidelity and divorces.
