Bulawayo (New Ziana- Twenty-two people were killed on Tuesday night when a South Africa-bound Toyota Quantum bus with 21 passengers onboard collided with a DAF truck with two occupants between Muchbinding and Ethandweni, 27km out of Bulawayo on Gwanda Road, police have said.
In a statement posted on X, police said two people were also injured when the accident happened around 2200 hours.
“The ZRP (Zimbabwe Republic Police) reports a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 14/11/23 at around 2200 hours at the 27 kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road near Thandweni Store in which 22 people were killed whilst two others were injured when a Toyota Quantum vehicle with 21 passengers on board was involved in a head on collision with a DAF truck with one passenger on board. The injured victims are admitted at United Bulawayo Group of Hospitals. More details to be released in due course,” said police.
In other accidents reported on Monday and Tuesday, nine people were killed in separate road accidents in Chipinge and along the Masvingo- Beitbridge highways.
In one of the accidents, six people were killed and three others injured when a Nissan Caravan vehicle with 8 passengers on board was involved in a head on collision with a Mercedes Benz early on Tuesday around 0500.
