MBERENGWA – A four-year-old boy died on the spot, while 38 other passengers sustained varying
injuries after a bus they were travelling in hit a stone and overturned near a bridge along
Mberengwa – Mataga road on Tuesday afternoon.
John Takura (35) of Highfields, Harare was driving an AVM bus which had 46 passengers on board.

Inspector Mahoko said on reaching the 40 km peg just after Chaza Business Centre, the bus hit a
stone and the driver lost control.
The bus veered off the road and fell on the side of the bridge and landed on its roof.
Unfortunately, a boy aged four died on the spot and 38 other passengers were injured.
ZRP Zvishavane Traffic attended the scene and the matter is under investigation.
In another accident, two people died on the spot, while five others were seriously injured after their
vehicle hit the back of a stationary truck on New Year’s day at around 5:30am, along Masvingo-
Mbalabala road.
Mtokozisi Malunga (24) of Village Dube, Chief Maduna in Filabusi was driving a Honda Fit along
Masvingo-Mbalabala road with seven passengers on board.
The Honda Fit rammed into a stationary Scania Tipper truck which had broken down on the left lane
of the same road.
The driver of the Honda Fit and one passenger died on the spot while six passengers were injured.
Bodies were taken to Zvishavane District Hospital Mortuary to await post mortem and the injured
were referred to Mberengwa District Hospital.
Insp. Mahoko appealed to members of the public to exercise maximum caution and adhere to all
road traffic regulations when driving.
“It is sad to note that most of the road accidents are due to human error and we have witnessed
that many lives continue to be lost and property damaged,” he said.
