THE Municipality of Bindura is currently working on restoring traffic lights in the central business
district and at the corner of Bindura – Shamva – Mt Darwin turn off.
The traffic lights only functioned for less than a year when they were first installed back around 2017.
Town Engineer, Audrey Mumba, said at first when the robots malfunctioned, they thought that it was
the issue of the solar system that needed to be replaced.
“Unfortunately we then bought the full solar system to supply energy to the robots in town and we
figured out there was more to it.
“We tested the traffic lights at the showground turnoff sometime this year and noticed that the major
problem was the issue of programming because only robots with the amber colour were turning on.
“So we disconnected them because leaving them working could cause vehicles to crash and cause
serious accidents.
“We engaged experts in robot maintenance, Tendo Electronics, and they are yet to get back to us for
the updates on how far they have gone in fixing the problem,” Mumba said.
“This is not a big issue. We are just hoping that very soon all the robots will be working because
everything that is needed in the functioning of the robots is now in place,” she said.
“We also have a plan to station more robots at three new places in the CBD before the end of this year
to curb the unprofessional driving currently happening in town,” said Mumba.
