Harare, (New Ziana) – The Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA), in conjunction with the Africa Economic Development Strategies (AEDS) will next week convene a breakfast meeting to deliberate on initiatives to strengthen food security in the country.
Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister Dr Anxious Masuka is expected to preside over the meeting, pencilled for next Thursday in the capital.
The meeting will see participants exchange notes on revolutionising the agriculture sector and its value chain.
In a joint statement on Wednesday, the AMA and the AEDS said the dialogue will involve farmer representative bodies, captains of industry, agro-processors, financiers, and government officials, among others.
They said the meeting reflects strong political commitment to the localisation agenda and the openness of the government to constructive dialogue, providing a confidential, evidence-based platform to align policy, finance, and industry around the practical implementation of Statutory Instrument 87 of 2025.
Statutory Instrument 87 of 2025 (SI 87) restricts imports of selected grains and oilseeds to stimulate domestic production and accelerate agro-industrial growth.
“Zimbabwe currently spends over US$2 billion annually on agricultural imports, a significant proportion of which can be competitively produced locally. In response, the Government of Zimbabwe has prioritized self-sufficiency in grains and oilseeds as well as the domestication of key agricultural value chains as both an economic and security imperative,” the convenors said.
The breakfast meeting is expected to “deliver a consensus-based localisation roadmap that balances farmer viability, processor sustainability and consumer price stability.”
