THE Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has approved the 2026 budgets for Gweru City Council and Redcliff Municipality, clearing the way for the two local authorities to implement their spending plans for the year ahead.
In separate statements issued, both councils confirmed that the approvals were granted in terms of Section 47 (1) of the Public Finance Management Act [Chapter 22:19], following consultations with residents and stakeholders.
The approval of the 2026 budgets for both Gweru and Redcliff signals a shared focus on accountability, stakeholder participation and improved service delivery as the two Midlands local authorities move into the new financial year.
Speaking on behalf of Gweru City Council, Town Clerk Livingstone Churu said the approval marked a critical milestone in the city’s planning and development agenda for 2026.
“The Minister of Local Government and Public Works has approved the 2026 budget for the City of Gweru in terms of Section 47 (1) of the Public Finance Management Act.
“We would like to thank all stakeholders who participated in the budget consultations and formulation process,” said Churu.
He said the success of the approved budget now hinges on cooperation between the council and residents, particularly in meeting financial obligations.
“For our budget to fully function and be successful, we call upon all residents and stakeholders to pay their bills. Together, we can make Gweru a better city,” Churu said.
In Redcliff, the council also welcomed the approval, describing it as a vote of confidence in its service delivery plans.
The municipality reiterated its commitment to improving livelihoods through efficient and responsive local governance.
Redcliff Municipality’s public relations manager, Michael Magoronga, said the council remains focused on delivering quality services while strengthening engagement with the community.
“The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has approved our 2026 budget in terms of Section 47 (1) of the Public Finance Act. Council remains committed to the provision of quality service delivery in its quest to improve livelihoods,” he said.

He encouraged residents and ratepayers to support council efforts by settling their bills on time, noting that revenue collection is essential for sustaining operations and funding development projects.
Magoronga also stressed that the municipality remains open to dialogue with residents. “Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to approach the council on any issues, concerns or suggestions they may have.
“Council remains committed to engaging with the community to ensure improved service delivery and sustainable development for all,” he said.
