Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on Tuesday carried out a crime and road safety awareness campaign at Mbare Musika, urging citizens to remain vigilant and safety conscious during the festive season.

Speaking at the event, Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi highlighted the need for all Zimbabweans, particularly public transport operators, to uphold road safety and responsible conduct.

“We call on all transport operators to be responsible, customer-focused, and law-abiding, ensuring the safety of travelers over the festive period,” Commissioner Nyathi said. The campaign comes amid a rise in seasonal crimes, with robbers reportedly targeting travelers and exploiting empty homes while residents are away on holiday.

The police initiative seeks to educate the public on precautions to prevent both travel-related accidents and opportunistic crimes. Commissioner Nyathi further emphasized the importance of personal vigilance.

“Everyone has a role to play—be alert, follow road safety rules, and secure your homes when traveling,” he said. The ZRP’s festive safety drive is part of a broader strategy to reduce accidents and crime spikes during the busy holiday period.
