MUTARE – A tragic incident occurred on Saturday when 12-year-old Asher Samachacha from Chamisa Village, under Chief Nerutanga, drowned while swimming with his cousins. The news has left the community in shock.
On the fateful day, Asher had accompanied his cousins Kundai Kanyemba (14), Tinotenda Kanyemba (14), and Tadiwa Tichaurawa (10) to graze his uncle’s goats. After completing their chores, the group decided to swim in a nearby pond located in Gora Village.
Tragically, Asher struggled in the water and was unable to swim. His cousins quickly realised something was wrong, and in a panic, Tadiwa rushed home to inform Asher’s uncle, Chigumbu. Meanwhile, Kundai and Tinotenda bravely attempted to rescue Asher but were unable to reach him in time.
Once Tadiwa alerted Asher’s uncle, efforts were made to locate him. Kundai and Tinotenda eventually managed to retrieve Asher’s body from the pond. The tragic incident highlights the dangers associated with swimming in unmonitored areas.
