THE Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service will host a two-day sports gala for
pupils from its 15 schools across the country next month (October).
The sports gala will kick-off on October 10 until the 13 th in Mutare at Sakubva High
and Mutare Polytechnical College.
Fifteen (15) schools, 12 primaries and three secondaries are set to take part in the
gala, participating in different sport codes and disciplines among them soccer, volley
ball and netball.
Primary schools will have their own pool while secondary schools will tussle on their
own.
Winners will walk away with assorted prizes, among them shields and trophies as
well as stationery and prize money.
Announcing the programme, Chief Superintendent Kuzivakwashe Dzimbanhete, the
ZPCS Education Deputy Director, said this would be the first time these schools
meet under one roof.
Mashonaland Central will be represented by Bindura Prison Primary, formerly
Pednor, Mazowe Prison and the newly acquired Guruve Prison Primary, formally
Gwake Primary in Guruve.
The event will also see ZPCS honouring its best teachers, school administrators as
well as long-serving educationists.
Chief Supt Dzimbanhete said gates to the tournament venue will open to members
of the public free of charge.
He said they decided to have the games on the aforementioned dates considering
that Grade Seven candidates would be through with their examinations and Ordinary
Level pupils will be starting a week later.
Already the commission has mobilised over US$11 000 towards the successful
hosting of the gala.
Dzimbanhete said every pupil among the 7 845 has been urged to pay $2 towards
the games.
He said the money was secure, encouraging well-wishers who want to partner in the
tournament to feel free to come on board.
