ZHOMBE based sungura musician, Petros Mukumbuzi Magwenzi is working on his second album,
expected to be released later this year.
Magwenzi who is popularly known as Mr. Zhombe in the musical spectrum, decided to go to the
studio where he is working on a six-track titled Pachedu. This is a follow up to his debut album titled
Rudo Rwashe which was released last year.
In an interview with The Times Arts and Entertainment, Mr. Zhombe said the forthcoming album
carries songs with different aspects of life aimed at aspiring, motivating, and educating
Zimbabweans.
“My upcoming album carries songs such as Chikomo Chegoridhe which motivates a poor man to
work hard so that he can be able to acquire riches such as gold and money,” said the leader of the
Chikwaya the Zhombe Boosters Band.
The 34-year-old artist said he is making efforts to release the much-anticipated album in October
2023 in Harare.
He said his first album, Rudo Rwashe had a hit song called Siphiwe which was well received by his
fans in Zhombe, Gokwe and Kwekwe.
“I have been performing in many parts of the country and the response has been marvellous and my
plan is to do a regional tour performing in countries beyond our borders such as Mozambique,
Zambia, South Africa and Botswana so that we promote our music and culture everywhere,” said Mr
Zhombe.
He said his music is inspired by the Sungura icons, late Leonard Dembo and Tongai Moyo.
“When I started my music career in 2014, I used to perform the late Tongai Moyo and Dembo's
songs until I finally wrote my own songs and recorded. Now, I can proudly say that these two late
music icons have been my source of inspiration on my music career,” he added.
Mr. Zhombe wishes to do a collaboration with the legendary Sunguru guru Alick Macheso.
