KWEKWE – An old human skull and bones of an unknown adult were found in the garden of a house
near Kushinga Primary School in Amaveni high density on Sunday afternoon.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed that Everisto Takawira
Madondo stumbled upon human remains comprising bones and skull at his place of residence.
The human skull was partly covered with soil.
A report was made to the police and further investigations led to the recovery of the bones. The
bones suggested that the deceased was buried in a shallow pit,” he said.
It is suspected that an adult could have been killed a decade ago and the body was secretly buried in
a shallow grave in the garden.
The discovery of the human skull and bones left residents in the high density suburb shell-shocked.
“We don’t know if it is the skull of a male or female but the skull had teeth only. After the skull was
exhumed, there were few human bones, so this left us battled,” said one resident, Mary Phiri of
Amaveni.
Another resident, Farai Mbano who witnessed the incident said: “Police who came to the scene
suspect that the skull is from the 1980s.
“The house is occupied by lodgers since the landlord now stays in Harare, so it is very difficult to tell
what could have happened leading to the burial of the body in the garden. We are all shocked about
this incident.”
The human skull was left protruding from the ground after the top soil of the garden was washed
away by the rain.
Police attended the scene and human skull was taken to Kwekwe General Hospital.
The police have urged members of the public missing a relative in surrounding areas to approach
Amaveni Police Station for assistance.
