Sabiwa Primary scoops prestigious award

New Ziana > Ilanga > Sabiwa Primary scoops prestigious award

SABIWA Primary School outshone 513 other primary schools in Matabeland South Province to land
the prestigious Secretary’s Bell Award.
The award is given to a school that performs well in various facets such as education, sports, arts,
infrastructural development of the school, among other special attributes.
An ecstatic Sabiwa Primary Headmistress, Isabel Moyo, hailed corporate social responsibility works
done by Vubachikwe and Blanket Mines that have seen the school developing in many areas.
Our local giant mines have contributed immensely to the development of our school in terms of
infrastructure, though Vubachikwe is currently facing some difficulties. Our SDC and former students
and stakeholders have played a vital role in reviving this school after the 2015 storm.
On the academic side, we adopted the e-learning process and this has made our students sail
through during the Covid-19 pandemic. The World Vision programme ProFuturo, which saw us
getting tablets with the new curriculum indeed helped us as well while our computer laboratory has
also fuelled the digital learning, said the Headmistress.
Matabeleland South Provincial Education Director, Beatrice Manjere, challenged heads to be
resolute in their work and be transformational leaders who seek to leave a legacy.
This merit award is open to every school, I therefore urge every headmaster to have the zeal to
transform their schools in both infrastructure and on the academic fronts. Lets take our schools to a
high level, said Manjere.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. Tumisang Thabela,
while handing over the prize to the school, challenged other schools to emulate Sabiwa Primary.
On top of the merit award, the school got 40 tablets, a projector and an electronic interactive board
and a laptop.
