Gwanda residents condemn drug peddlers

New Ziana > Ilanga > Gwanda residents condemn drug peddlers

FOLLOWING the surge of drug abuse and substance use among the youths, Gwanda
residents are baying for the blood of people selling the illegal drugs.
Several people interviewed said adults were to blame as they were selling various substances
to youths, who then become hooked onto the drugs.
A resident, Abigail Manda, said drug dealers were destroying childrens future as they
exposed them drug abuse at a tender age, which significantly affects their productivity in
communities.
Youths are the key drivers of the countrys development and they are leaders of
tomorrow, however, they have been exposed to drugs, which significantly affects
their productivity in the communities, she said.
Manda believes that there is need for the law enforcement agents to flush out drug peddlers.
Serious law enforcement is needed in order to contain drug dealers and drug lords, who are
destroying the lives of our children .They must rot in jail and never come back, she declared.
Gibson Sibanda from Matshetsheni area said the cheap alcohol known to many as untshengu
must be banned totally as it had led to violence within communities.
This cheap alcohol named untshengu has troubled us a lot in our area as children no longer
have respect for their elders. Fights have been the order of the day and this should stop
forthwith. The substance should be banned completely,” said Sibanda.
Another resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said it was common sight to see
drug dealers walking freely without any fear yet they were criminals who ought to be brought
to book.
Drug dealers are one of the worst criminals in our communities, yet they are walking scot-
free. Houses where drugs are sold are known but we do not see any action being taken, this
seriously has to change,” said the resident.
