GWANDA born and bred accountant based in South Africa, Dumisani Tshuma, was again
behind the cheer of several elderly people during the festive season.
Tshuma, who is also a businessperson with interests in the hospitality sector in Gwanda, has
since 2020 been hosting Christmas parties for old people’s home inmates in absentia but
decided to attend the 2022 function.
Further to the old peoples home function, he hosted a New Year get-together barbeque for his
workers on 1 January.
Addressing several invited guests and old peoples while hosting the old people’s home
luncheon, the businessperson said it was always his wish to be present at the occasions
although the advent of Covid-19 had made movement difficult from his base in South Africa.
He added that he felt obliged to give back to the community from which he came.
We started this initiative with my colleagues who are also based in the diaspora.
We did this as a way of giving back to the community of Gwanda from where we were
raised.
Besides having the inaugural old people’s Christmas party in 2020, we also bought
protective equipment for Gwanda Hospital. In the year 2021, I sponsored the Christmas party
for the elderly again even though I did not manage to come home but, for 2022 I have
managed to come and this time things are more improved than the previous ones because I
managed to provide food hampers for 20 elderly people, he explained.
I urge the brethren to take care of our elders. They are our responsibility, and I also advise
other colleagues to do more in community development, especially in the care of the aged.
A beneficiary of old people’s home , 101-year-old Agnes Ndlovu, who will be turning 102 in
February, expressed gratitude for Tshumas benevolence.
I thank Mr. Tshuma for making us smile for all these years. We thank him and his staff for
the love, care and happiness they have been providing to us.
May the Almighty Lord bless them all, she said.
Gwanda Old People's Home Co-ordinator, Ruth Zulu, said that she was pleased with the
cheer the inmates have been getting three years on the trot.
We are happy for the help that continually comes from Dumisani Tshuma and this is for the
third time in a row. He is visionary and cares for the elderly. As the co-ordinator I want to
thank the Gwanda community for the help and care they give to our elders at old people’s
home. Without you, we are nothing," she said.
Dumisani Tshuma was born in Gwanda and grew up in Jahunda and Marriage townships.
He attended Jahunda Primary School before enrolling at Gwanda High for his secondary
education and furthered his Advanced level education at Chaplin High in Gweru.
In 1999 I graduated from NUST with a B.com Accountancy degree and joined Price Water
House, studying Chartered Accounts and qualified in 2002. Thereafter, I worked in
Botswana, the United Kingdom, Zambia and now Im based in South Africa since 2006
working for a private equity company as the Chief Financial Officer, he said while giving a
brief background of himself.
