Gweru (New Ziana) –Work on Gweru based Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) debutants Sheasham FC’s home ground, Bata Stadium is at an advanced stage and is expected to be completed by the end of this month, a senior official has said.
In an interview, Sheasham FC chairperson Reginald Chidawanyika said the stadium was 90 percent complete with the drainage system, lawn, perimeter fence, the VIP grandstands, ordinary stands and the rest of the ground hving been completed.
He said they had also done the dressing rooms, ticketing booths, public toilets, the road into the stadium and the parking area while outstanding work include bucket seats which are being procured.
“There are also outstanding aspects regarding the VIP shed and the media centre which we expect to be complete anytime,” he said.
“We have given ourselves 31 January as the date we would have completed everything that needs to be done barring any unseen circumstances,” he said.
Chidawanyika said they had invited authorities to see progress and give guidance and had implemented the recommendations.
On completion, the stadium will have a carrying capacity of about 8 000 people.
In preparation for its maiden appearance in the league, Chidawanyika said the team had started its pre-season camp outside Gweru.
He said the team had gone through a number of changes in an effort to make a mark in the PSL.
“We do not want to be in the PSL to make up the numbers. We have a project that we are implementing and some of the changes were informed by the desire or objective we have set for ourselves,” he said.
Although they had retained the services of head coach John Nyikadzino, some of the backroom staff could not be kept as they do not have the required Confederation of African Football A license, he explained.
Chidawanyika said Nyikadzino was now seized with the recruitment of a competent assistant coach who possesses the CAF requirements to seat on the bench.
He said they had recruited 10 new and three junior players who are part of the pre-season camp.
