Harare,  (New Ziana) – President Mnangagwa on Wednesday said ruling Zanu PF party programmes must align with Zimbabwe’s development trajectory as the country sets its eyes on implementing the National Development Strategy-2 (NDS-2) to be rolled out starting next year.

He was speaking at a Politburo meeting that was held in Harare. Launched last week, the NDS-2 (2026-2030) precedes the NDS-1 and seeks to consolidate gains made as Zimbabwe journeys towards Vision 2030.

“As the curtain comes down on 2025, we have much to celebrate from the viewpoint of both the party and our Zanu PF-led Government. Our unity saw us prevail over many challenges encountered during the course of the year. We rose to the occasion and maximized on the many opportunities within our own jurisdiction as well as others beyond our borders.

“The last quarter of the year culminated in the successful completion of the NDS-1 and launch of the NDS-2. The achievements of the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP) and NDS-1, as well as the launch of NDS-2, were a result of the views and resolutions of our past conferences and Congress. In looking to the year ahead, it is critically important to ensure that the party’s mobilisation programmes and communication remain in sync with the overall thrust of the NDS—2. Zanu PF should continue to lead from the front, about the full implementation of the NDS-2 and overall national development agenda over the next five years,” President Mnangagwa said.

He commended the party for organising strategic workshops that helped members to reinvigorate its structures and programmes, and Politburo members to remain united and shrug off challenges that may come along the way.

“Principally, we must ensure that all organs, structures, and members of the party play their part, not only to grow the Party’s support base, but also to grow the size of our economy and deliver a higher quality of life for the people. Collectively, as the Politburo and respective Heads of Department of the Party, we are the secretariat of the Central Committee.

“We must, therefore, make sure that the Conference resolutions and decisions of the Central Committee are implemented with a clear matrix and laid out timelines. Seminars should serve to equip the Party on the expectations articulated in the NDS-2. In our Seminar reflections on emerging opportunities, threats and challenges, I urge the party to remain guided by our party Constitution, Congress and Conference resolutions,” he said.

President Mnangagwa added that the ruling party must always be prepared to tackle challenges that are a result of emerging Information Communication Technology (ICT) trends.

“Equally important is the need for Zanu PF to face head-on, contemporary issues such as the impact of ICTs as well as Artificial Intelligence (AI), among other trends, on our body-politik and national governance systems. We must be proactive and prepared to adapt our party in line with these developments,” he said.

The Politburo meeting will be followed by the Central Committee and National Consultative Assembly (NCA) meetings on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
